This information has been translated from the German website and is meant as a summary of the history of the Dautermanns up until Otto Dautermann.
Otto Dautermann is where Heidi's family tree starts (in the 1600's).
The oldest known Dautermann was named "Virgilius Dautermann", a commandant of the fortress "Hohenwerfen"
in Salzburg (Austria).
Virgilius had six children, one of them was named Dionysius. Dionysius in turn had a child named Johann Rupert.
Johann Rupert received a new name of "padre Ignatius" (Father Ignatius) because he joined the Augustinian (a church or a denomination?) and was
known for being a church musician and establishing cloisters.
There is a Michael Dautermann listed as an "Ausmärker" in the inhabitant list of 1618 of the town of Gau Algesheim.
An "Ausmärker" is an old German word which means that Michael was the owner or the leaseholder of an
agricultural plot outside of a village.
In 1622 Otto Dautermann, a baker of Neu-Bamberg (near Bad Kreuznach), settled down in Bayerfeld-Cšlln.
His grandchild Peter Dautermann married Maria Catharina Bock, the doughter of a miller.
Therefore he had also the right to come into the "Hahn-Mühle"
at Bayerfeld-Cölln. He died on February 16th, 1739 and left an affluent widow.
The relation/connection between Otto and Michael to the Austrian Dautermann "Virgilius Dautermann" is not clear.
One of the theories is that as a result of the Reformation (where many people were killed by the Catholics), the
first Dautermanns settled down in the Rhineland (Bingen and so on).
The family tree (genealogy) that Heidi put together starts with Otto Dautermann.
